Goals for 2017 and My Word for the Year!

I've talked about goals on my blog before, but I can't remember the last time I shared my new year's goals. I remember having a goal to run a half marathon in 2011. I ran it in September of 2011 in Chicago. I loved running it even though I was entirely too sore afterwards. I didn't work out for a month after running my half marathon. Ha

This year, I have a few goals planned out for myself, but I also picked out a word. My word for the year is "create." This past year, I didn't blog as much as I wanted. I wanted to focus more on capturing memories from the year that mean a lot to me, and in general, I want to write and create more. Plus, we are having our second baby this year. I'm anticipating an abundance of posts capturing all the big and small moments I never want to forget. I have a small goal to write two to three times a week on my blog to keep myself consistent throughout the year. This goals has kept me thinking about what I want to write or focus on for the first couple of weeks this month. My planner has been a huge help when it comes to blogging and my work. If I plan it out at the beginning of the week, there is a good chance I will accomplish what I want!

I also want to listen or read two books per month each month this year! I want to watch less TV and focus more on what book I want to read next. This month, I am listening to Anne of Green Gables and reading "Eligible," the modern retelling of "Pride and Prejudice!" Bill gave me "Eligible" for Christmas after he found out about it on NPR's recommendation list for books. I love this book so far, and I can't wait to review it. "Anne of Green Gables" has been fun to listen to on Audible. I love how much more satisfying it is to find a good book to delve into rather than watching a show.

This next goal pairs really well with my word for the year... I am wanting to take more pictures and upload them to Instagram. I would love to create two big custom chatbooks from my Instagram account this year. Their custom books can hold up to 366 photos per book. How awesome would be to have a huge book from the year with all my captions from Instagram?! I gave one chatbook to my mom and another to my mother-in-law for Christmas, and they seemed to love looking through all the pictures! I think they make great gifts.

Another goal I have? I want to stop myself from spending an hour or so mindlessly looking through Instagram or Facebook at night. I feel horrible for wasting my time by looking at posts instead of actually utilizing my time for something productive. Does anyone else feel this way? We only have so much time in a day, and there is always something I could be doing to accomplish a little bit more in any given day. I'm sure I could work ahead or finish up a project with the time I waste on social media. Also, I'm pretty sure the hour of work I could get done at night would help me during the day.
