Work from Home Mom

 I need to make my work area look like this... {Picture Via: WeHeartIt}

I don't think I've mentioned how I love the term work from home mom before on my blog. This term has resonated with me on a few different levels. I knew I still wanted to work after I had Liam, but I also knew I didn't want to work full time or outside of my mom. I feel like it's a lot easier for me to work from home being an English and Journalism major. It's nice having freelance opportunities available to me. I don't work freelance for the most part. I'm lucky enough to be an employee of a small company where I have the title of staff writer. They build websites, and I tell the business owner's story in a way anyone off the street could relate to it.

I cannot express how grateful I am to work from home and have the opportunity to be home with Liam. Nothing's perfect. But, this is pretty good.

I've realized a few things I truly love about working from home:

One}I create my own schedule. I think it's amazing to work from home and have my own schedule.
Two}I play with Liam and be with him all the time. This goes back to creating my own schedule, but I think this is one of the most important reasons of why I work from home.
Three}I don't have to worry about daycare. I cannot imagine having daycare be worth it. It wouldn't work for me for a number of reasons.
Four}I get to teach Liam words and read to him all the time. I love being able to teach Liam on a daily basis. I have the opportunity to make this a priority during the day.
Five}I save a lot of money by not commuting. I don't have to waste money on gas or going out to eat since I work from home.

Pretty amazing.

ten things making me incredibly happy

One} The warmer days we've had in February, including this Sunday, have made this winter tolerable and somewhat enjoyable. The rest of next week is supposed to be colder, but I'm not thinking about it!
Two} Plans for a fun March. I can't talk more about this one, but it's going to be fun.
Three}Pineapple, Banana, Spinach smoothies. I feel incredibly energized when I have these everyday. Plus, think of all the nutrients you get from a spinach smoothie, and it tastes good!
Four}Dirty Dancing Havana Nights movie and soundtrack. This movie brings me back to Spring break during my Senior year of high school. I love the movie so much. It's truly one of my favorites.
Five}I saw my family twice this weekend, and I got to go out with my sister and my sister's friend on Friday. Bill got to go out too. It was a good weekend!
Six}Writing on my blog has put me in a good mood. I love documenting the happy moments. I LOVE looking back on happy moments. They get me through anything difficult. Even if I'm not going through any hard, I enjoy having the opportunity to go back in time on my blog.
Seven}Baking Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. I love putting coconut oil and flax seed in them to make them more "healthy."
Eight}Love is in the air! I've been helping plan a bachelorette party, and I'm so excited for this spring and summer. It's going to be great!
Nine}The chance to escape in a good book. I listened to Storm of Swords on Audible today. Those books are amazingly good.
Ten}Fuller House on Netflix. I feel like everyone is watching this right now. I've watched about ten minutes of it so far. I've had work and other things to take care of, but I'm looking forward to watching it.
Bonus Eleven} Kittle has been sweet per usual lately. I love that I've taken a couple of selfies with her in the past couple of days.

Life Lately

I'm blogging about last weekend when we are about to start this weekend! Oops! Anyway, let's hurry up so I'm on time next week. Ha

Meg came over with Kitlle for a walk in the woods the other day!

Kitlle gave Lee a kiss, and later that night, Lee gave Kittle a kiss. I love tat Liam loves my childhood dog. :)

We went to Brookfield Zoo on Saturday when it was almost 60 degrees!

We had the best time. We brought two of Liam's cousins with too. He loved being around his cousins.

The sun felt so warm!

🌷 Chillin in his stroller.
We spotted the giraffes from afar.

Bill loved this part. Haha

He's a big fan of the Dinos.

And the Okis. Where do I start? They look like a cross between a zebra and a horse. Ha

I love this polar bear!

Cousins. 🌺

Such a beautiful sunny day to be out walking around at the zoo.

Liam wore his baby Merrels from his Gramps.

Can you believe how warm it looks on a Saturday in February?!

My favorite part with the fish and the penguins!

Loved these spiky fish.

And the award for the oddest looking fish goes to this guy...

How crazy is his face?? I kind of love it.

I wish we had a fish tank if it wasn't so much work.

Watching the buffalo!

Running around having the best time!

I watched the newest episode of Superstore. I love this show, but I wasn't a fan of this latest episode.

We took an impromptu ride in the tractor with Bill when he was spreading gravel on our driveway.

We're about to have another spring like weekend! I can't wait.

Liam - 14 Months

Enjoying our trip to Brookfield Zoo!

Out to eat with your Papa at Portillos.

First time on the swing and you loved it!

Monthly Highlights:What a great month it has been! We've been finding ways to have fun even though it's still cold out. I would say our biggest highlight was going to the zoo. It was the warmest day, and we couldn't believe it was February! We didn't wear our coats. We just enjoyed the sun shining on us. We had the best time.

Our mom groups are also a highlight. love watching you interact with the other kids.

Weight: 25 pounds 10 ounces

Height: 31 and 1/2 inches

Hair: You're still blonde, and we love it! We always want you to be blonde.

Eyes: True blue like your dad's eyes.

Teeth: You have four teeth now! You have your top two and your bottom two. I thought I might have seen a another top one coming in but I'm not sure.

Clothes: 2T shirts and 18 month or 2T pants.

Eating: Blueberries, eggs, string cheese, bread, vanilla yogurt, applesauce, noodles, meat, cereal, puffs, and yogurt bites.

I've been avoiding giving you the food pouches lately, because you like to push all the food out of the pouch. What mess! Haha

Sleeping: Falling asleep between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Waking up between 8 a.m. and 8:45 a.m.

Milestones: You are starting to say different sounds. We are trying to teach you different words, and we can sometimes hear you trying to say the word. The other day your Mimi told me they were trying to teach you the word book, and they could have sworn you said it. :)

I know you know the word mama.

You can climb up the stairs at your Nana and Papa's house really well. You are running now. You are pretty fast too.

You started climbing the other week. You climb up on your futon and on the couch in the living room.

You have taken an interest in the chairs at the kitchen table. You like pushing them around. I was hoping you wouldn't notice them. Ha

You give KISSES now! We love it. The first time you gave a kiss, I didn't know what you were doing. lol Your open mouth kisses are so cute.

Saying: The other day, you came up to me saying, "Mama, mama, mama." You wanted to come up on the couch with me. It was adorable.

Then once you were on the couch, you said, "Dada!"

You know the sign for all done! Yay!

Toys you love:

Red Scooter
Lightup Balls
Green Tractor
Blanket with all the tags
Bathtub squishy toys

Your carseat

We were out to eat at Sushi Station, and every time you would take a sip of soup, you would make this exaggerated sound that sounded like, "Aaaaaah." While you do it, you look up at everyone and smile. Sometimes, you even roll your eyes back. It's adorable and sweet, and I love it. Everyone loves it.

Februrary Randoms

It's hard finding interesting stuff to do in the winter. We are usually cooped up inside, and we are forced to be creative with the activities we choose. I'm usually OK with this for a while, and then I really want to get out! Well, yesterday we got outside for the first time in what feels like forever. No, I'm not just repeating a Frozen lyric. That is a Frozen lyric, right?

Anyway, I've been writing down all the things I've enjoyed doing these colder months to keep track of it for next winter. We've been lucky. This winter has been so mild. The next couple of days are supposed to be in the 50's! I have no reason to complain. I feel like spring is right around the corner. In the meantime though, we will be doing more of the fun activities mentioned below.

1. Watching all Gilmore Girls episodes on Netflix. Wow, I can't believe over several months I watched all seven seasons. I love Lorelai, Rory, Luke, Lorelai's parents, Lane and the people of Stars Hollow (sp?) I love their Friday dinners. Everything about that small town where everyone knows each other is appealing to me.  In a way, I do feel like I have the small tight knit community too.

I'm even more excited to watch the 4 episodes coming to Netflix soon! I need more Gilmore Girls!

2. Walking on our favorite trail covered in snow! I love getting outside. No matter how bad I'm feeling, the fresh always gives me a fresh perspective.

Plus, I love having Liam outside where he can run around and swing on a little baby swing. He loves to swing. You can see pure joy coming from him.

3. Going to the movies for the heck of it. I will gladly go to the theater for just about any movie. I love watching movies on the big screen. We always have a lot of fun.

4. Playing with Liam and finding ways to make him laugh. It's pretty easy to get a laugh or a smile out of Liam.

5. Finding times to journal. I like nights where I don't have any work. Nights where I can sit down and write a couple of pages in my journal.

6. Hanging out at mom's house playing cards. We started playing Hearts this winter. I'm still getting used to the rules, but we have fun playing it. My mom really wanted to start playing card games, and Hearts was the first game we learned.

7. Going to the diner with dad. We have this really cute diner in our hometown that my dad loves going to on a weekly basis. I love it too. It's nice having something fun in our town.

8. Having people over for dinner. We've been having different family members over for dinner. Bill and I trade off making dinner. I've been enjoying finding ideas on Pinterest.

9. Reminiscing while watching my favorite movies. I have Saving Mr. Banks on my iPhone and iPad. I love watching that movie. I have this little video on instragram of when Liam was really small and we were watching it together. Good memories. :)

10. Going to the zoo, zoo, zoo. How about you, you, you? Hahaha We sang this song while we took Liam and two of his cousins, Sophie and Fefe with us. They had so much fun on the way to the zoo. They laughed and laughed some more. It was kind of crazy how much fun they had just sitting together. We had the most beautiful day to go to the zoo that I could ever imagine for February 20th. It was sunny and warm, and we didn't want to wear our coats. How crazy is that?! People were even wearing shorts. I can't wait for the next warm day.

11. The combination of having busy work days and slow lazy days. I've been working hard to have designated days for work and for play. It's been working really well. I used to spread out my work throughout the week. I don't necessarily like doing that. I really really like having days where I focus on work in the early morning, during naps and at night. This way, I am less stressed out, and I have more time to focus on my Liam. During the weekend, I find times to work too. I have more help on the weekends as well. #workathomemoms

12. Experimenting with makeup. I think everyone who knows me knows I wear makeup everyday. I would say my favorite makeup product is eyeliner. I have put eyeliner on my top eyelid for years. I still love having it on top, but lately, I haven't made it as thick. I like having it make my eyelash line look thicker rather than having it just look like eyeliner. I'm not sure if that makes sense.

13. Teaching Liam words and reading to him. Lately, I've been thinking about how I want to be more intentional when it comes to teaching Liam new words. It's fun teaching him, and it's incredibly exciting when he starts to say a word. The other day, my mom told me he said "book." How cool! He has said mama before, but we are trying to make it more consistent.

14. Hanging out with Bill and Meg. We're like the three amigos. We went for a walk in the woods the other day. It was extremely windy, but it was a lot warmer than usual. We picked up dinner from a fish fry the other night. I don't usually eat fish, but it was pretty good.

15. Bowling with the fam. Now, this is a new hobby. I'm loving that we are trying to go bowling more often. It's cheap AND fun. All four of us went the last time. Bill is an awesome bowler and a hilarious one. One time, he managed to chuck his bowling ball into someone else's lane. Does it get any better than that?! I don't think so!

16. Cooking dinner and having family over. We've been having different family members over for dinner. Bill and I will trade off who cooks dinner. Liam agrees to entertain whoever comes over for dinner. :)

17. Going to the church and picking Liam up from the Sunday school daycare. Liam adores the playing with other kids, and I always feel so proud of him when I see him playing with other little ones.

18. Finally figuring out there is no way around a diaper bag for the most part. I have resisted carrying a diaper for a long time. Nothing really worked out that well for me. I tried larger purses, but they didn't always workout for longer periods of time. I figured out that if I have a diaper bag in my car, I can have a couple of things I need in purse without having to carry my diaper bag everywhere. I can simply go back to my car for everything I need. I really hate the look of a diaper bag... It's hard to force myself to carry one around especially when I love purses. Haha

19. Writing in my journal. I love keeping a journal. They are fun to look back on after years of writing in them. I've never consistently wrote in the same journal until last year, and I determined to keep writing in it for this year as well.

20. Audible became my new best friend. Between taking care of Liam, working part time and keeping my house clean, I don't have much energy for reading. A few months ago, I would get really upset when I couldn't stay awake to read. Now, I'm in the habit of listening to Audio books. It took me a while to get used to them, but now, I can honestly say I enjoy them. I feel like I am reading the book even though I'm listening to it. I actually feel like I might be "reading" it better than I usually do. There's something about hearing every word makes a huge difference. I like knowing that I don't have to give up reading. I love books!

21.  Winter Walks in the snow like this one. The sunshine and fresh helped us overcome our cabin fever. Plus, Liam loved the swing. It was adorable to watch. This also leads me to my next point.

23. Exercise. Every time I exercise I almost always ended up enjoying it, and I always feel better. What can I say? I love endorphins.

24. Taking care of our duck and rooster. It always amuses me how Kevin, our duck, and Fredrickle, our rooster, genuinely love bad weather. They love to sit outside in their huge fenced in area in the rain or snow. They're goofs.

25. Trips to the mall and Sushi Station. I think we need a new mall, but other than that, I enjoy going there to walk around and people watch. Sushi Station is awesome too. Although, Liam wants to grab the sushi carousel the whole time. Poor guy, he doesn't understand why we get to touch it and he doesn't. We might need a new sushi place too. Haha

26. Blogging of course. Blogging is one of my favorite things to do. I've been planning a lot more for this blog recently. I think it helps me generate ideas and content that I really like. I like it better than waking up and writing a post on the spot. This is one of the those posts I planned, and I think it might become a monthly recap.

27. Cleaning up multiple times a day. I feel like this month more than ever, I have had to clean and clean. Liam has always been crazy active, and I feel like there are toys everywhere. I'm figuring out different ways to keep it clean.

28. Thinking about Spring and Summer. I absolutely love Spring and Summer. I cannot wait for the warmer weather and the chance to get outside more often. Liam is going to love being outside more especially now that he is walking and running.

29. Hanging out with our mom's group. I'm so lucky to have a great group that we can get together with on our regular basis. I also can't wait till it's my turn to host in the summer, and I can pick a park for everyone to meet at during the week. Liam has a lot of fun interacting with the other kids, and it's adorable to watch them play.

30. Going to see How to be Single with your sister. This was such a cute movie. It was a movie about single people navigating the single life. Meg and I both agreed they avoided a lot of cliches and made a really touching movie. It was a super cute Valentine's movie.

Fun in the snow!

Bill started off the day by making Dutch babies!

Looks amazing.

We went to the park yesterday. It was bright and sunny out, and we wanted a chance to play in the snow before it melts this weekend.

Kitty came with too!

Liam loved playing and walking in the snow. He did so well.

Auntie Meg helping Liam up.

Kitty enjoying the chance to run around on the trail.

What a cutie!

Winter can be beautiful too.

Liam loved swinging in the swing. It was adorable to watch. Last summer, he was too little to enjoy the playgrounds we went too, but this year will be completely different!

Lil cutie having fun.

We had a blast at the park! The sunshine and fresh air is the best. It was exactly what we needed to cure our cabin fever. :)
