I'm listening to the song "Happy" and writing this post from our hotel room. I took this beach photo with my iPad on our balcony. I was semi afraid of dropping my iPad over the balcony while taking the pic. That would be so sad. Ha

I just finished writing a few articles that I'm turning in soon. I thought I would give a quick update about our trip. It's almost over with and that makes me so sad! The weather has been gorgeous here.

It's a sunny day, and I can't wait to go out in the ocean on my inner tube. I'm really glad we bought them at the grocery store the other day. I felt childish at first, but they are honestly so much fun to use in the ocean.

Have you tried using any floating device while swimming in the ocean? My mother-in-law and I went out in the ocean with them the other day, and they made us feel more brave!

I feel bad that my posts have been sporadic, but we've been busy on this trip. Today, I stayed back at the hotel. I loved the slower pace where I could lounge by the pool catching up on writing and other things I needed to do for work.

Do you enjoy alone time? I feel like I definitely need that time to recharge and get organized. ;)

On the Road Again

We're back on the road again. We started out at 5:30 a.m. this morning to get an early start. It is going to take 10 hours to get to Florida (the town that we're going to) which will have us arriving there in the afternoon.

I'm preparing to be totally sentimental bloggers. We're staying at the place where we got married two years ago!

I'm excited and shocked that we're finally going back!  Ok, not really "finally" but I'm overly excited and a little dramatic.

I can't wait to sit out on the beach during the day reading and swimming when I get a chance. Of course,  I'm going to take advantage of the pool being open all the time too. Ahhh, I can't believe we're really going to be there today.

I really wish I could take this sunny warm weather with me up north. I told my mom I wish she was here with me along with the rest of the family.

Oh well.  I'm not going to think about that now.

What are you up to this week,  friends?

Valentine's Weekend

I feel so weird that I haven't blogged in over a week.I'm writing from my phone now and it's the most frustrating thing ever. This feels like it is going to be one long text to all my readers. Ha

Bill and I are on our way to Mississippi and then to Florida. I can't wait to be in summer like weather. I'm thinking I will post most of my pictures to instagram. Friend me on there: nataliediane

I didn't get a chance to write about our Valentine's Day, but we had dinner at home and hung out watching the Olympics afterwards. I made fettucine alfredo with meatballs and garlic bread for dinner. It was really good but a little on the dry side.

Besides that, I've been keeping busy with workand taking care of my animals.

I miss blogging and my blogging friends! Tell me what you guys are up to lately? I want to catch up!

My Hiatus from Facebook

A couple of weeks ago, I deactivated my Facebook account. I felt the overwhelming need to take a break from it. I was annoyed at how I checked it every hour. What's the point of that?

Do I really need to update myself on what everyone is doing every hour or every day for that matter? No, I really don't.

I wanted to challenge myself to forgo Facebook for two days. Well, I did it! It wasn't easy though. Throughout those 2 days, I would pick up my phone and try to open my Facebook app only to remember I deactivated. That habit was hard to break.

I filled that extra time with thinking more about what I needed to accomplish in my day. I loved that I was more focused! I wasn't constantly stopping to check my news feed. I also thought about how thankful I am to have a writing career. (I love that I am busy doing something that I absolutely love and cherish.) When I'm on Facebook, I have a bad habit of comparing myself to others. It never feels good. With the valuable break, I was able to realize why that was happening.

After my two day hiatus, I went back to my habit of over checking, but I tried to stop myself and limit the amount of times I was there per day. Ha I just realized that I sound like I'm writing about an addiction I have. I guess it could be, but I'm slowly moving away from the obsession and becoming less interested.

I mainly post links to my blog on my Facebook page and the occasional picture. I hardly ever post status updates anymore. I'm really glad that I took that 2 day break. I realized how much focus and attention I had for other things when it wasn't a part of my day.

This isn't to say that Facebook is all bad. There are definitely good things about it. I, like many others, enjoy staying in touch with people I don't see often. It's great for that.

Have you ever taken a break from Facebook? Were you glad you did?

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies for your Friday

I've been going to work at my mom's house a few days a week. It's peaceful and productive for me. I like working in her new den that used to be my brother's bedroom. I sit back there at the desk and work on my articles and call different people for interviews. I love that quiet time to work all by myself.

I also love baking at my mom's house.

Kittle loves waiting for any scrap to fall off the counter and into her mouth. Yummm...

This afternoon, I chose a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie recipe and quickly pulled out the items from the cabinets that I would need. This recipe included chocolate chips, brown sugar, white sugar, oats and all the other obvious ingredients.

I followed the recipe and didn't spray the pan with any oil. I'm always nervous that the cookies will end up sticking to the pan, but that didn't happen! Phew. I'm totally in my element today.

Writing and baking always put me in a great mood.

I think I found my two big passions and my agenda for the weekend. ;)

Nashville Nights

My mom and I have been obsessed with Nashville ever since the pilot. We love Connie Britton, the country music, and of course the drama that ensues in each episode.

I've been going over to my mom's house on Wednesday nights for the past couple of weeks to watch this favorite show of ours. We have dinner together and a glass of wine is usually involved. Oh, we also have some chocolate too.

Kittle is the first one to fall asleep. :)

I feel like the drama is really heating up in the show. Rayna finds out from her ex husband, Teddy, that her dad was targeting him but ended up killing his wife. Plus, she also finds out that her dad was responsible for her mother's death and at the end of the suspenseful hour, we watch her dad have a heart attack in Teddy's office after Teddy tells him that his own daughter who he worked with for 15 years is the one responsible for his prosecution. Now that is drama!!

Also, we found out that Scarlette is newly addicted to drugs in this episode? A colleague gives her a bottle of pills to help calm her nerves and all the sudden she's completely reliant on them? I feel like I'm missing something. I like how talented her character is but her personality is rather boring and leaves a lot to be desired. She doesn't really stand for anything.

This show never lets up on the hugely dramatic scenes.

Do you watch Nashville? What do you think will happen next? Also, do you like Scarlette's character?

Am I Cut Out for Jillian Michael's Workouts?

For the past few mornings, I have been diligently working out to Denise Austin workouts. I like her cardio and yoga DVDs the most. Her workouts are easy to follow, and I still feel like I'm doing something great for myself.

Well, this morning, I decided that I would try Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30. Things were going great till this one part where I was laying on my back and lifting my legs and upper back up so my stomach muscles were essentially do all the work.

I could feel my lower back throbbing. The pose was meant to give your core a workout, but my lower back was definitely the one receiving the workout. I followed the DVD and did that same exercise twice even though I could hear my lower back screaming.

I went back into my room to change into normal clothes after I was done and found that I couldn't bend without feeling a throbbing pane in my lower back.

Now, I'm a couple of hours past my workout, and the ibprofein I took isn't touching the aching pain. Ugh...

This experience leaves me wondering if I'm really cut out Jillian Michael's workouts or not. I love some of her other DVDs, but I'm not thrilled with how I feel after the Ripped in 30.

I may have to contemplate all this with a fruit smoothie and a good book until my back feels normal again.

I'll keep you posted.

Feeling defeated usually causes me to have a sweet tooth. This time, I refuse to do that. :)

Pages for iPad

This fall, I spent hours and days trying to find an application for my iPad that would allow me to send my articles in Word documents. I was going on a couple of trips, and I needed to be able to turn in my stories while I was away.

While I was on vacation, I used Dropbox to upload my stories, and I used Droptext to create and edit my stories. I didn't find Dropbox and Droptext to be the most ideal solution, because there were extra steps that I didn't like. I had to be online to edit my files in Droptext, and then after I edited my files, I had to upload the current file to Dropbox.

I discovered Pages for iPad last week. My dad called me up and told me that I needed to get the Pages app. He told me that it was $10, but it was worth the money. I spent the $10 based on his recommendation, and I love it! There are a plethora of different documents to choose from such as basic note taking documents, reports, essays, letters, resumes, envelops, business cards, flyers and posters, cards, and more. I'm mainly using the note taking documents and the essay document to write my stories.

I love that I can simply pick out a document and write my story in an organized template and then email my story in a Word document format. When you email the document, you have the option of sending it in four different formats including Pages, PDF, Word or ePub.

Essentially, I have Word on my iPad after paying the $10 for Pages. I'm a huge fan of this app if you can't already tell. Another bonus? Pages has word count and other essential settings. If you're writing on the go and need a way to send Word documents, I highly suggest getting Pages for your iPad. You won't regret it!

P.S. I didn't get paid to write this review. I just love the app!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Yesterday, we went out with my dad for his birthday! We celebrated at Cornerstone Bakery, one of his favorite places. His actual birthday was on Friday, but we weren't able to get together that day so we decided on Saturday.

I love taking pictures, but my brother would be happy if I never snapped his picture. ;) Oh well, he survived!

We went back home and watched a movie at my dad's house. I really enjoy celebrating birthdays even if it's a simple celebration. My dad had a good time with us, and I'm really grateful that the snow storm we had on Saturday was a lot smaller than predicted! I hope the weather channel is wrong about the storm we are supposed to get this week as well!

Hope you are all having a great weekend!
