A Very Merry Christmas

"Kitty, why are you trying to sit like a human?" She's really an expert at begging. haha

Even Kittle received some gifts. ;)

Including a gingerbread man cookie for dogs.

I bought a center piece for our kitchen table at Costco for $12!

My dad, my brother Phil and me at my dad's house on Christmas.

We started the holiday weekend off with family time and ended it the same way. Christmas was full of eggnog, mint hot chocolate, desserts, presents, and Christmas movies. We went to my mom's house for Christmas eve. At her house, we snacked on appetizers till dinner and watched Santa Clause 1 and 2. ha I'm a fan of the first Santa Clause, but with almost every sequel, the second one is sub par.

Gift giving was fun this year. We gave my mom an Amplified Bible and two new Joyce Meyer books like she wanted. I was able to get her name stamped on the front of the cover of her new Bible, and I also crochet her a scarf. She loved her presents. I gave Phil a no-sew blanket that he really liked and several stocking stuffers. I bought 3 yards of each fleece fabric to make his blanket since he's tall. Nothing is more annoying than having a blanket that doesn't cover your feet.

Bill received some winter gear including a winter coat, hat and a zippered jacket to line the winter coat. My mom gave me expensive Oneida silverware that I had been wanting for a while! I'm thrilled to have nice silver wear. I seriously love it. I also got a few other things that I love. Phil gave me a gift card to get iBooks on my iPad!

At my dad's, we stayed for a while and enjoyed the snow falling on Christmas day. I love having a white Christmas. We skyped with Megan a little bit, but I really wished she could have been there with us! My dad just returned from a trip to Norway to visit his sister a couple of weeks ago, and a lot of the gifts he gave were from there. I'm planning on writing a post about some of his gifts.  He had such a good time with his family, and I'm hoping I'll get to travel out there someday.

For my dad's gifts, we picked out a Keurig and some K-cups for him that he loved, and I also made him a no-sew blanket. I had a lot of fun making those. I made one for myself, but Bill loves how warm it is so he sleeps with it now! I may have to make another one for me. ha

Anyways, I've been thinking about my posts for next year, and I'm hoping to blog a lot more. I've grown attached to this blog of mine, and I hope you have as well. :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, friends!

P.S. I naturally feel a bit of let down after Christmas is over. We spend months prior to Christmas anticipating the wonderful day, and then, it arrives only to leave in a flash. This morning, I will be burning my Georgia Peach flavored candle and reading this essay by Mindy Kahling. Is it possible that Mindy Kahling couldn't cheer you up? I think not!

What I Love about Christmas

Kittle wearing a Santa hat.

1. I love all the anticipation for Christmas Eve and Christmas. Christmas is much more formal and exciting than Thanksgiving. (Thanksgiving is always more laid back in our family.)

2. I love sending out Christmas notes this time of the year. This is the first year, I will be writing a card to a few family members/close family friends.

3. Christmas movies are the best escape from busyness. The Grinch, Home Alone 1, and Family Stone are my favorites!

4. I enjoy baking cookies with friends and family. I baked yesterday with my sister-in-law, Tracie, and had an awesome time baking and talking.

5. I admittedly love all the decorations that appear this time of the year. I strung lights in our kitchen and living room, decorated an ornament wreath for our living room, purchased a little Snowman for our desk that changes colors, and decorated a small tree for our living room. Oh, we also have lights outside of our house! I'm feeling festive now. :)

6. I love that everyone is in the spirit of giving as well. I love hearing stories about people reaching out to others in need.

7. I love attending the Christmas Eve service. We've gone in the past, and it's always nice.

8. I love dressing up our family dog, Kittle, in a festive sweater or a Santa hat. I think this helps her get in the spirit. Haha

9. My favorite thing? I love spending quality time with my family including Bill's family and celebrating God sending his son. I'm very thankful.

Wednesday Wishes: Christmas Edition

This time of the year, I have a hard time forming a list of things I want when any of my family members ask me. I usually can only come up with a couple of things and leave the rest up for them to surprise me.

I found myself stuck again this year when it comes to a Christmas list. The two things I can think of right now? They are baking supplies and yarn. These two activities have captured my attention this winter.

What's on your list?

Family Photos: My Weekend

Happy Monday, friends! I realized this morning that I have a lot to get done this week! Between stories for work and Christmas shopping that needs to get done, my plate is full this week. (I've only started shopping a little bit...) Before I jump into the craziness that is this week, I thought I would share what my weekend looked like. It was pretty calm.

Bill has been wanting to make Ginger Bread cookies for a while so we decided this weekend was it. We didn't have any brown sugar for the cookies so we used sugar in the raw instead. Our ginger bread cookies have a crunchy delicious texture. They are probably the best ones I've ever had.We used this recipe. (Make sure to use sugar in the raw if you are wanting that sweet crunchy texture.)

Aren't these little Ginger Bread cookies the cutest!?
(Shhhh!!! Don't tell anyone, I ate a few of them. :))

Kittle is never too far away when we're baking in the kitchen.
I also made an ornament wreath since we aren't getting a tree this year... (I got the idea from Fran at  Freeborboleta. Go check out her tutorial!) Bill's asthma is flared up from our bedroom so we have to sleep in our living room until we get new flooring. A Christmas tree would only make his breathing worse. I called and found out we have exactly one more week of living in our living room. :(

This weekend, I also went to my cousin Val's college graduation party! I had a great time. :) Congrats again!!

Val is also blogging! Go check out her blog, Blonder Blogger.

Have a good week, friends!

Lucky He's Mine

Two weeks ago, my car became incredibly loud.

It was so loud that I would get headaches from driving back and forth to different places. I wasn't happy about it.

I figured it was the muffler.

Bill drove my car over to his parent's farm and drove it onto the lift to check it out. Turns out, the resonator, a part of the exhaust, was the culprit. It was rotted out and causing all the noise I experienced when driving.

Bill told me he could fix it, and in that moment, I knew once again that I have a husband that isn't nervous of trying different things to help his wife. ;)

Yesterday morning, Bill drove my car to the shed so he could drive it onto the lift again. He called me 5 minutes later and asked if he could cut part of my exhaust namely the part with the holes rotted into it.

I said, "Sure! Go for it!"

He told me later that cutting off that part only took 2 seconds of his time. We decided to go to a store that would cut the right size of pipe for my exhaust.

Once, we got the pipe we picked up a couple of more parts including clamps and were on our way with only $24 for everything!

I was totally impressed.

When we got home, Bill put the new resonator on and we waited a little then he adjusted the clamps and put a couple more on there for good measure.

He worked for a couple hours making sure everything looked good.

I started my car up and it was quiet again!!

I was (still am) so happy!

I went to my mom's later that night and when I came back, Bill told me he couldn't hear my car at all!

I think I received my second Christmas miracle. :)

Honestly, I feel incredibly lucky that I have a husband who knows how to work on cars and can find cheap ways to fix them. He's the best.

My resonator on my exhaust that is completely rotted.

I'm curious, do any of you feel like you received a Christmas miracle lately? My sister-in-law, Tracie, informed me that Christmas miracles are a thing, and I can't get them out of my mind. I keep discovering little things that might be my miracle. xx

Christmas in Chicago

I always feel a slight let down after Thanksgiving is over. All the anticipation of the family gatherings and holiday food ends, and I'm left grappling for the next anticipated event or activity. Lately, I've been filling my evenings and weekends with watching my favorite TV shows, reading a good book, and hanging out with Bill. I also went to Chicago twice in one week and visited the Christkindlmarket both times.
Last Saturday, I went with my mom, Bill and Phil. My brother, Phil, is living in Chicago now so we also made a stop at his apartment.
I loved that his roommates already had their Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving!
We saw a wedding party at Millennium Park. Hopefully, they didn't notice me snapping a couple of pictures.
I wanted to stop at this Target in Chicago simply because it looked so fancy. My brother and Bill overruled my request and informed me that it was the exact same as the other ones. I don't believe them. ;)

At the Christkindlmarket, there were a plethora of ornaments to pick from in different shops.

This pink polka dot mushroom looked like it was from Alice in Wonderland. I loved it!
This past Friday, I went to Chicago again but with different people. I went with Bill's sisters, mother, and family friend, Ruth. We stopped at the Walnut room in Macy's for lunch. When we got there they said that they didn't have our reservation, and another person said they didn't take reservations. I honestly don't know what was the truth, but we managed to get a table after only talking to a few people instead of waiting for around two hours.
I ordered the Peppermint Schnapps. I'm drawn to peppermint drinks this time of the year.

While we were sitting at lunch, there were different fairies who greeted each table. There was one fairy who I overheard say she was the head fairy who had wrote the book that was placed by the entrance of the restaurant. I wish I had of jotted down the name of the book.

On another note, how beautiful is that Christmas tree?! Our waiter said that some people opted to wait for over two hours to sit and eat their lunch by the tree!

Frozen is a Magical Movie

Moments before we walked into the movie theater to watch Frozen!

I'm drawn to animated movies of all kinds.

My favorites include The Grinch, Up and Ratatouille. Now, I can add Frozen to the list.

My nieces had seen Frozen last week, and I decided I wanted to take them for a second time. Frozen did not disappoint. I was in love with all the beautiful graphics and cute characters.

Turns out, the girls loved Olaf, the snowman, just as much as I did. Olaf had the sweetest little voice and his personality was absolutely adorable.

We all agreed Olaf, the snowmen, is our favorite character.

I suppose a cute snowman in a kid's movie can brighten my day.

Some days, that is all it takes.

Caleb's Lunchbox Notes

I love the idea of leaving notes around the kitchen for my husband Bill. I'm a list person by nature and will frequently leave reminder notes in a prominent place on one of my counters. Sometimes, I'll even place little love notes to Bill on important dates such as anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays.

I love when I find people in blog land who also enjoy writing notes. I recently discovered a talented artist, @RHETT_REEVES, on Instagram who writes notes to his son Caleb that always includes one of his drawings. This idea is magical to me. I would have loved to receive these as a kid. My mom frequently left me little notes on sticky pads wishing me a good day at school when I was growing up. I treasured them. RHETT_REEVES notes are similar to my mom's.
I was excited to discover that he drew the Grinch for his son this week. The Grinch with Jim Carrey is one of my favorite Christmas movies.
This note and drawing are so beautiful. The love for his son is evident.

What do you think, friends? This dad's talent astounds me. I know that I would love to write letters to my loved ones on a weekly or monthly basis, but I don't have the talent to draw like him or at all.

The great thing is you don't have to have that kind of talent. You can email this talented dad at Rhett.Reeves@gmail.com if you are interested in a print or ordering an original. How great is that?

Have an awesome day!

My First Time in Vegas for Tom's 21st

Evan and Tom standing at the top on that round rock!

My First Time in Vegas

I'm not much of a gambler. While I was in Vegas, I only played $12 total. The first time I put $10 in and won $12! That was pretty cool since I usually lose around $40 when gambling. Then on the last day, I played $2 on the Sex and City machine and lost the measly $2. Ha Although, I enjoyed listening to the Sex and City characters' voices.

Bill on the other hand did very well on the last night of the trip when he spun once on a machine and won $236. I was very proud.

Suffice it to say, I didn't come to Vegas to gamble. I was along for the ride for Tom's 21st birthday. I was thrilled to go to the Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon. Bill's fear of heights resurfaced when we were at Hoover Dam and were looking over the edge and imagining an emanate death that would occur if we were to get pushed off the edge by a stranger. The picture in my head of that certain death is disgusting. Ha

The third day we explored Red Rock Canyon where we walked on trails and climbed up red orange rocks. I loved finding exotic desert flowers and any wildlife I could spot. Bill, Tom, and Tom's friend, Evan, were also entertaining to watch as they climbed up ginormous rocks and looked over steep edges. Their exclaiming over the difficult climbs and jumps they pursued was hilarious.

My sister-in-law, Katie, and I both had skirts on, but we managed to climb and explore with tripping or falling over our skirts.  I also had on snow boots with tights. I was not prepared for the outing, but Red Rock Canyon was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

I need more hiking adventures. The location of my next trip might be centered around where I can find challenging hiking trails surrounded by mountains. A girl can dream, right?

Have you been to Vegas? What was your experience? If it wasn't for you, where would you rather visit?
