Thanksgiving Weekend

This Thanksgiving, we both enjoyed a lot of quality time with both of our families. We spent Thanksgiving morning with Bill's family by having breakfast with them and playing Scrabble later in the day. I even learned some handy tricks with making pie crust from my mother-in-law. I really did appreciate it! I ended up making my pie crust at her house, and then I rushed home to make the rest of my Dutch Apple pie and bake my homemade rolls. I was a little stressed, since I don't have much experience making/baking pies! I'm much more comfortable with basically anything else!

After I finished my pie and hurried around the kitchen, we went over to my mom's house and had dinner with my brother, my mom, and her boyfriend, John. We all missed my sister, Megan. It wasn't the same without her! After dinner, we continued the holiday traditions by watching a favorite Christmas movie in our house, The Grinch. It was such a nice and relaxing day! The rest of the weekend, I read The Hobbit, worked out, shopped a little with my mom and brother, and me and Bill brought home and decorated our first Christmas tree together as a married couple! I am all too excited for the holidays!

{What I'm making this Thanksgiving}

Dutch Apple Pie

Pumpkin Bread

Buns for dinner

Monster Cookies

This Thanksgiving, we are going to Bill's parents earlier in the day and then over to my mom's house for dinner. For Bill's family breakfast, I am making pumpkin bread, and for dinner at my mom's, I'm baking Dutch Apple pie, rolls for dinner, and monster cookies. I'm also bringing the Pumpkin pie flavored drink that me and mom I taste tested. My mom is cooking the turkey and baking the other things we typically have on Thanksgiving like green bean casserole, strawberry pretzel dessert, and the best stuffing I've ever had among other things.

I started making the dough for the rolls tonight. I'm feeling really festive now. Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Check out The Pioneer Woman's favorite side dishes for the holiday here.

The holidays are here!

The peppermint tea that I've been drinking this weekend.

This weekend was pretty busy with family plans and such. Saturday I got to go wine tasting with my mom. I found two new favorites there which were Just Peachy wine and Pumpkin Pie Cream Liqueur. The Just Peachy wine was a drier white wine that smelled and tasted like fresh peaches! The pumpkin pie was possibly my favorite fall drink. It literally tasted like pumpkin pie! I can't wait to have it at her Thanksgiving dinner. I had so much fun with my mom.

Billy and I decided to get a Wii U this weekend, and I think we both have enjoyed playing it!! We got the Nintendo Land game, and I played a few of the small games including the one where you collected candy and one of the players attacks the two animals that are collecting the candy. My favorite part is how big your character's head grows when you collect a lot of candy and how you can see the head of the player who is attacking the other two players on the TV while you're playing. I was cracking up when Bill's face was in the corner of the screen when he was shouting, "I'm going to get you guys!"

It was a fun and relaxing weekend, and I can't believe that it's finally Thanksgiving week! I can't wait to celebrate with my family!

It's Friday and this is what's making me happy.

Braiding my niece, Lanie's, hair before we went to the zoo in February.

Megan (my sister) and I have been sending texts and calling on and off for the past couple of weeks to keep in touch since she left for California. I really like updating each other on little things we're doing throughout the day. For example, I told her tonight that I am watching Mean Girls while cleaning my house. I haven't watched this movie in a year, and I felt like I needed to watch it tonight. I used to watch it 5 to 7 times a month during my senior year of high school. That movie cracked me up, made me smile, and feel content all within two hours. ha If I had a bad day, I watched. If I had a good day, I watched it. You get the point.

Anyways, after I told her about my night, I mentioned to her that when she called me today during work, I had forgotten to put my phone on silent so it was on full volume when I was sitting at my cube. Also, I have my phone set to announce who is calling me. OH MY. I never thought how amused I would be when my phone announced, "Call from Megan Chip." I couldn't stop laughing. I always forget that not everyone has as many nick names for the people they love. Fortunately, no one said anything or even seemed to notice. It was the highlight of my afternoon.

The other highlight? I got to paint my nails the same color as in the photo above. That may or may not sound really lame. In my defense though, it was a Thursday evening, and there wasn't much going on in our house. I was watching Antiques Roadshow with Bill. A show that keeps growing on me but doesn't quite have as much of my attention as American Pickers (another show that we also watch together.) so I entertained myself by painting my nails with my favorite shade, Ate Berries in the Canaries, from OPI. It was a good night.

This weekend, we are making pizzas with Bill's family this evening, going to a baby shower on Saturday, and we have a Turkey raffle to go to on Sunday. Bill looks forward to the raffle each year. :) What are you up to this weekend?

Working out makes me happy

I've been following Workout Healthy on facebook, and I can't believe how many inspiring things they post. The picture above is from their page. This one is inspiring me to get up early to get some yoga time in or run before work. :) I will probably be a little wobbly in the morning, but I can't think of a better way to start my day.

my last financial class

I was surprised by how fast my class went. Last night was by far the best meeting we had together. We all sat around a few different tables in a circle, and after the movie, we discussed a lot. I could have said more in the discussion, but I found that the experiences that the other group members were talking about I couldn't relate to. I was the only person in their 20's and the rest were in their 40's and 50's. I didn't mind though. They talked about budgeting for a family and some talked about how they are educating their own kids to live within their means. My favorite couple their had been married for 30 years, and I loved their honesty about the struggles they are currently facing. It was obvious to see how in love they were and how they were a team. Loved it. :)

As a couple that just got married this past January, I really think this is one of the best classes that I could take right now. I know that living without debt is the best way, and I am lucky enough to be debt free. I don't have any kind of loan and that is one of the most freeing things to be financially free! I started out the class debt free, but I still had that tendency to spend my money without thinking. I can admit to not thinking about spending my hard earned money just so I could have something that I don't really need like extra clothes. All of that money spent would add up and I would end up feeling very discouraged. I haven't done that in several weeks, and I'm even finding myself wanting to save more of my money. Bill and I have a budget, and we record what we spend each month. This is one of the most beneficial things we've done so far! We actually know what we are spending each month, and we know where our money is going. I'm looking forward to finding out how much better we do in the next few months.

A Cozy Weekend

Bill and I ate at Houlihans after going to church today. We had disco fries that have gravey,  mozarella, and garnish on them. It was kind of ironic that we had them today, since we saw them on First Look last night. We both thought they were really good!

After we got home, we both took a nap. I love taking naps during the weekend. I also got all of the laundry finally folded and put away! Yay. How was your weekend?

Little Things

This week, I'm finding that some of the littlest things are making me happy like the texts from my brother, the Target Christmas commercials that played on TV, watching Up All Night on NBC, remembering the beautiful sunset that I saw last week while walking Kittle in my mom's neighborhood, the burning smell of my Cashmere candle, wearing my winter scarfs, an idea for what will be my favorite holiday project this year, and the Christmas music that I have already listened to for hours this past weekend. All of these small things are helping me feel more positive throughout the week. I am thrilled that my brother, Phil, is coming back home on Friday, and my Dad is coming back home from Afghanistan in December! Wow, this week truly is bittersweet! On Friday, I am going to hang out with my family and catch up on pretty much everything. Only two more days. Yayyy!

Yesterday, Megs left for California. I was really sad for a good part of the day, and then, I tried to snap out of it. I'm hoping she has a great time and meets a lot of good people. Meg is pretty lucky that she's in California and the house she is living in has an inside pool! Awesome. :) That doesn't mean that I won't miss my sister a lot though!! I definitely will.

This Friday, Phil is coming home from Boston where he had his 7 week training for his new job. I'm glad he will be living at home for a little bit. I can't wait to see him on Friday! On Saturday, I'm going to watch the new James Bond movie in theaters with Bill. I can't wait for the weekend. Do you have any plans?

our trip to the wilderness.

Earlier this week, we went to the Wilderness in Wisconsin Dells. I love going there in the Fall/Winter, because there are no lines for any of the rides! I think we only had to wait behind two groups of people maybe once or twice. That was awesome. :)
We went to the Wave Pool a bunch of times. I learned that wearing your contacts in the pool is completely unnecessary. I was having to clean them every time I got out of the pool, and since my vision isn't that bad, I decided to forgo them all together at least while I was swimming. Fortunately, Bill didn't have the same problem as me which is good since his vision is much worse!
I always take a picture of my feet when I'm watching the waves. It never gets old. haha
Bill's brother Tom and his girlfriend Colleen came up for one of the days that we were there and hung out with us. We had a great time swimming in the wave pool and going on the rides together.
We went to Moose Jaw the second night there, and Bill got the 50 ounce sampler of beer. Some of them were actually pretty good. I liked the honey beer the best.
I don't know why I ordered the white wine again. It was way too sweet for my taste. I think that was the second time I ordered it and hardly drank any of it. Our pizza was really good though. We always like it there!
We got ice cream on our last night at the Wilderness. Bill got Dark chocolate fudge with cookie dough, and I got mint chocolate chip. They have amazingly good ice cream. Love it! I think my favorite part of vacation was spending 6 hours a day in the pool. We would go in the morning and night. I couldn't get enough of the water rides and having that time with Bill. I love when we can get away together. Now, we are back to work tomorrow, and I'm working off all the calories I had by running and doing yoga. Yay. :)

Meg's Birthday

This series of photos cracks me up and makes me smile. It's totally Megan and our family. I love seeing my sister happy, especially on her birthday. Yesterday, my mom and her boyfriend and me and Bill celebrated Meg's birthday with a dinner that blew us away. My mom grilled ribeye steaks that were massive! She also cooked fettuccine with pesto and made a beautiful salad. I'm hoping I'm as good of a cook as her someday.

Of course, we had some cake too. We each got a slice even though the pictures say otherwise. :) I loved how even the cake has Fall colors on it.  Also, Meg really liked her presents. My mom gave her great stuff like a huge thing of coffee from Costco, clothes, and cash. I gave her one of her favorite movies Family Stone, some dry shampoo that smells amazing, make up, and spa lotion from Bath & Body. She loved it. :)

After dinner, cake, and presents, we sat around the TV talking and watching How I Met Your Mother. I thought about how much I'm going to miss having Meg around, but I'm so grateful we got to spend her birthday together minus my brother. We miss you, Phil! It's too bad he is in Boston for another week. Meg leaves on Monday for California. So we decided on Sunday that we are going to have Christmas come a little early by watching Home Alone. I can't wait to watch it.
