Because I Feel Like It

I'm in one of those moods where all I want to do is write a list about the things going on or what I'm thinking about lately. I have been pretty busy lately, and I feel like my days and week are all planned out for me. Although, I have a few exciting things planned that I am looking forward to in the coming weeks.

Here are the things on my mind:

One. This Thursday was the season premier of So You Think You Can Dance! I love watching all the talented dancers. I always develop my favorites throughout the season.

Two. I would really like to spend time outside this weekend. It's supposed to be a little warmer  here, but we'll see. ;) I'm glad that I can finally run outside and do all the things I missed throughout the winter.

Three. I'm still thinking about Bridesmaids. I would love to see it again. Which character do you think your most like?

Four. I really like Ellie Kemper's character. She cracked me up when she talked about being distraught when she was single. I couldn't stop laughing when she started to tear up after describing how upset she had bee over being without a man.

Five. I will admit that I can relate to Little Miss Perfect. I liked how prissy she seemed even though I would never want to act that way in real life. I knew she was big softy who only acted that way and deep down she wanted friends more than anything.

Six. I can't wait to see my brother Phil tomorrow at Nationals. A big hug is in order. :)

I recently gave him the nick name Pip. I think it's my new favorite for him. Ha.

Since I've started training, I've felt noticeably more positive about how I feel about my body. Before training, I wasn't running or exercising consistently. I would run for 3 days and stop for 3 or 4 days at a time. My schedule made all the difference. It totally makes sense to me. I live around schedules. They help me stay sane. ha. (I like knowing what to predict.) For my training, I have incorporated running, free weights, and yoga.

My goal is to run consistently for two days and be off for two days. I'm also not planning on running 9 to 10 miles consistently. I would love to run 6 to 7 miles each time I run, and then every couple of weeks I will have a long run that will hopefully increase my endurance. I want to be prepared for my race. :) I received advice from a former coach who told me that it would be best to run 6 miles daily but go on a longer run every couple of weeks. I was so relieved to hear that. I didn't know how I was going to keep up with running more than that everyday. I know I will be able to go on the longer run every couple of weeks if I'm consistently pounding the pavement!

I am also really excited for what I have planned for my days off from running. I am combining yoga and free weights. I recently purchased Jillian Michael's Yoga Meltdown. I tried the Yoga Level 1 segment and thought it was great. Even though it was the beginning level, they gave the option of doing the more advanced poses which I appreciated. There is two segments that are 30 minutes each. I am planning on doing both of them on my days off. I have a feeling it's going to kick my butt.

There is another aspect of training that I've considered. I want to be able to envision myself running for 13 miles. I honestly believe that if I tell myself I'm not able to do something I won't. I know that may sound obvious, but I really think that a positive attitude goes a long ways! I am going to try and envision running for a longer distance every time I run. I am planning on posting more about my training as I get more into it. There are few other things that I would love to post about such as: what type of running watch to use, listening to music while running, and my favorite runs. I hope you enjoy them!

Also, I couldn't end this post without reiterating how much I LOVED Bridesmaids. Seriously, go see that movie! Ha. Here is all the encouragement you need.

Scenes from the Weekend

This weekend was exactly what I need this week. Although, it didn't start that way. On Friday, Bill and I had a great time riding on the four wheeler and had amazing rhubarb pie, but later that evening, we tried to see the movie Bridesmaids and it was sold out. We were highly disappointed. Saturday proved to be a more enjoyable day when we were able to see Bridesmaids and ate at one of our favorite burger places.

I haven't laughed so hard at a movie in years! Everything that was supposed to be funny was hilarious. I honestly can't say enough about that movie. One of my favorite parts was when the group of girls when out to eat to celebrate the upcoming wedding, and they ALL got food poising. I know it sounds bad, but it was too funny when they went to try on bridesmaid dress and they all started getting sick before they could get out of their dresses. Oh my gosh, how embarrassing! I would love to see that movie again. :)

We ended up going to Starved Rock in the morning on Sunday. I was so glad we did. We had been throwing that idea around since last summer. It's a beautiful state park that has some awesome trails with water falls and massive rocks. It couldn't have been a better day for us.

I Love Sunny Days!

Billy and I started enjoying our favorite summer things this week. We rode on the four wheeler yesterday. I drove, and he was otherwise occupied. ;) The night before we rode around the golf cart just looking at the woods and different trails. I thought it was awesome how everything smelled like summer with the fresh cut grass and the flowers blooming. Also, Bill's house seems adorable in the summer with the ivy growing on the front of it and the bricks outlining the garden with perennials. 

We were pretty happy it was FRIDAY!!

It was a beautiful day. I was so happy to be outside in the warm weather with my love. 

After we were done riding on the four wheeler, we had some amazing rhubarb pie (that I've wrote about here.) that Bill's mom made. It was so tangy and sweet. Yumm. What are some of your favorite things to do in the summer? I couldn't be happier that summer is finally here! (At least for the next four months. :) )

A couple of days ago, I signed up for my first half marathon. I'm not sure if I was feeling really ambitious, or I just wanted a goal. Honestly, I needed a goal. That night I ran 7 miles with my dog on country roads. It felt amazing, and I wanted to keep going but I didn't want run too much for my little puppy. (BTW, thank you so much for all your sweet comments about Kittle.) I ended up coming home after running 7 miles. I kept on thinking how I wanted to put all this training towards something like a big race. That's how I convinced myself to sign up for the half marathon in Chicago. 

I'm so thrilled to have a goal, and I really think it will be good for me. I need something like this to motivate myself. Do you ever feel that way? The thought of working towards something inspires me to run more than I have in the past. Also, I am equally excited that two of my friends are running in the same race. It is great to know that they are training for the same thing. xx So, tell me what have you been up to lately?

Every weekend, I live for the moments when I feel relaxed and completely rejuvenated from the week. Since I have started working at my new job, I've felt like it takes more energy out of me being new. Although, I cannot believe it has been six weeks since I had my first day, and I feel like I am getting in the swing of things. There is nothing better than feeling like you are adapting to a new situation. Only, a few things can beat that.

One of them being, my adorable puppy, Kittle. She is always happy to see me when I come home. I love how she always greets me by running towards me and wagging her tail. Just look at how cute she is all the time!

The Things That Are Making Me Happy!

Since I love lists, I thought I would write one about all the things that are currently making me happy!

This hot summer-like weather is A-MAZING! I can't believe we are finally getting 80 degree weather. ;) It makes me want to wear cute dresses!

Goldfish to snack on whenever. It's my favorite treat anytime.

I think I know one of my favorite things to do this summer! Running on my awesome trail. It doesn't look exactly like this, but it's beautiful. (I'll take pictures later. xx)

Yesterday, Billy and I had rubarb pie thanks to his sister Tracy! It was SO good!

Another thing that is making me happy is spending time with Billy. I never thought I would have a guy in my life who is as genuine, sweet, and loving as him. I love him and our fun dates.

This year is different than others. This year, there are graduations, weddings, a baby shower, a Bachelorette party among other things on my calendar. I'm excited about all of these events. In three weeks, a childhood friend of mine is getting married. It's not often that I get to watch one of my friends recite their vows to their soon-to-be-husband. All of these things listed above make me sentimental.

I don't know if it's the introduction of warm weather combined with the special things I'm attending or what. All I know is, I cannot wait for all of them! It reminds me of how special Sunday was, when my sister told me that I WAS going skydiving. I had no idea she was planning that. Honestly, that made it all the more fun and memorable. I feel like I'm about to go to so many things that are going to be equally as memorable. I love thinking about those them and gearing up for it. It also makes me remember that I need to take a step back and think about everything happening right now. If the future seems more appealing than the present, how do you stop yourself from focusing on an ever appealing future rather than acknowledging the things going on right in front of you?

Momma's Day + Some Skydiving!!

This Mother's Day was unlike any other Mother's Day my family has had. In the morning, my mom, Bill, and me went out for breakfast this Mother's day. Bill and I had a great time showing my mom where we love to eat breakfast. We all had a great meal. I ordered my usual grilled cheese since I am not a huge breakfast food person. (Nothing about it appeals to me.) My mom and Bill ordered a Mexican skillet that always comes with this amazing salsa.

It was really nice eating and talking together. Also, we got to watch one of the cutest babies, one of Bill's nieces, during breakfast. Another almost-two-year-old walked up to Bill's niece wanting to say hi. She would look back at us when he would come over to our table. It was so cute, because her expression screamed that she didn't know what to think about it. After breakfast, my mom and I went home and relaxed before we went out to Meg's work, the Chicagoland Skydiving Center.

My mom was planning on her second jump yesterday afternoon. I went with her camera in hand and flip flops on my feet to the drop zone. I was planning on taking pictures of my mom after she jumped. Little did I know, my sister was planning on being sneaky. We got to the check-in part of the center and five minutes later, Meg was telling me I was going to jump as well! I couldn't believe it! She told me if I was coming to the drop zone, I was saying that I would jump.

Well, I couldn't even write my name normally after she handed me the waiver. I was already stressing out big time. One of the biggest reasons I went jumping was to prove my mom wrong. She said I would never do it, but she was wrong! I had to borrow someone else's tennis shoes and I put a jump suit on while we were gearing up. I was so nervous. My tandem instructor was really nice though, and I was glad I knew him. (He is one of Meg's friends.) After we geared up, we walked to the plane that ended up filling to capacity with first-time jumpers and tandem instructors. My mom said she had never seen the expression of complete horror on my face before in her life. I was scared out of my mind. When people started jumping out the plane and disappearing out of sight, I started to lose it. I reached back for Megan's hand, who was riding next to the pilot, and squeezed with all of my strength. I also said, "I'm SO SCARED!" I'm a pretty big wimp sometimes.

When it was my turn, I was quiet. My mom thought I would scream at the top of my lungs, but I didn't scream at all. I didn't feel the need to scream. I get extremely quite whenever I'm really scared. (After we both got done, she told me it was really weird watching her daughter jump out of the plane!) I have to say that the free fall is the best part of jumping for me! I loved how fast we were going. It was 200 mph during free fall until the instructor pulls the static line that slows you down to 125 mph. I loved that feeling of just being completely out of control. I jumped out of an airplane! Ha! I've never really felt that high in my life. It was quite the experience. Once my instructor pulled the parachute, I felt myself get pulled up, and then we were just flying. It was AMAZING! All I could say was, "Dan, that was amazing!" We also did spins when we were up there which were so much fun. I got to see the farm land and people's houses in a way I never had. We were literally just hanging out in the sky. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done! I have my sister to thank for that. Even though, she sprung it on me, like she loves to do, she payed for my first jump. Thank you, Meg! You rock! Now I'm not the only in my family who has never skydived! (Everyone else has done it!)

Happy Weekend to You

It's not very often or at all that I get sick. Today and the past three days I've felt pretty horrible, and it would be a big understatement to say that my lack of concentration hasn't been conducive to blogging. Ha! Anyways, I thought I would just write a quick post about the thinks that are going on right now.

Since, my birthday is coming up I have been thinking about what I want for my birthday. I would LOVE to get Photoshop. I have been using it quite a bit at work, and I think it would be awesome to have it on my computer. I really like all the the cool things you can do with that program. xx

One of my very good friends is getting married in a few weeks so I have weddings on the brain. Plus, it just seems like it's that time of the year. I can't wait to go with Billy to her special day. Last week, Bill bought suspenders for the wedding, and I am looking forward to seeing him all dressed up. Love those vertical lines.

This Sunday is Mother's Day, and I am looking forward to a day with mom. We're planning on gardening at home and cooking dinner together. My brother and sister won't be there unfortunately, but I am still going to try and make her day special. I hope you all have a great weekend! xo
