Challah

Yesterday, I was excited to try and bake something new-anything new. I recently started baking bread and making homemade pizza for family members including Billy so I thought I would try challah. This is the last week before I begin my new full-time job, and I needed to use my free time in a productive way. :)

It turns out that making challah IS a very good way to spend a few hours. I have come to love kneading bread-it's very rewarding seeing the dough rise and then be able to make bread from it! My challah was a success, and my boyfriend can attest to that!

Sunday Dinner

It's not often that my family gathers around the table for dinner. This last Sunday was one of those rare occasions where we ate a meal together. It was wonderful having most everyone there eating a great dinner prepared by mom. My mom loves having big sit down dinners on the weekend, especially on Sunday. We don't do it every Sunday, but when we do, it's pretty special. I love all the work and preparation that she puts into it. She wouldn't do that if she didn't love us.

For a while now, I have related someone preparing food for me or me baking for someone else as an act of love. I want to spread the love. This week, I want to bake more than I have in a long time for the people in my life so be prepared for a few recipe posts coming your way. Happy Wednesday to you, friends!

Day 12: Something I never get compliments on.

A few years ago, I realized that my sister was more fashionable than me all together. There was no way around it. Meg, my sister, knows how to dress well naturally without trying one bit. (I had to take a few unspoken tips from her.) People would come up to her after church and compliment her clothes, cute scarfs, or necklaces that she would wear. They would compliment me on how pretty and big they thought my eyes were. But, I would always wonder why they would never compliment my clothes like my sister.

Even now, years later, I care more about the eyeliner and mascara on my eyes than the cute clothes I could be wearing. (Don't get me wrong, I still love having fashionable clothes to wear like any girl.) The plus side? I believe I am saving money since make up is less expensive than clothes at least for me. For the most part, I am a drug store junkie when it comes to make up.

There is something I find fascinating about makeup. I like being able to put eyeliner on my eyes and see the before and after. A small part of me feels like an artist, and for the day, I am comfortable in my own skin. Who wouldn't do something they like to feel that way?? Since I didn't spend that much time concerned about my wardrobe, it should have been no surprise to me that people didn't compliment my clothes- something I didn't put much love or thought into when I was younger.  My sister, Meg, on the other hand liked looking fashionable and make up was secondary for her.

I've gotten better at wearing cuter clothing since my high school days. I became obsessed with buying pretty tops my senior year of high school into my college years in an attempt to fit in with friends my age. But I will admit, I barely received compliments on my clothes (they noticed the make up adorning my face first), and to this day, I still don't have people notice them. If I do get a compliment on my attire-they're most likely noticing a pretty top I'm wearing.

Is there anything that you never receive compliments on? Does it bother you?

Day 11: Something people seem to compliment you the most on.

Today, I am going to share with you what people compliment me on the most. I know I am probably going to feel like I am bragging, but I hope you all know that I'm not... Even attempting to write this, I feel weird, and I am doubting myself. But with that being said, I have had people compliment me on my hair and my eyes.

Most of the time, they don't what color my eyes are because they aren't just one color. They're a mix of blue and grey and sometimes they look hazel. People also compliment me on my hair's thickness and color. When I was younger, my hair used to have more red in it, and now, it is has turned to more of a brown color with red highlights. I'll admit that it's nice receiving compliments about my appearance (who doesn't like that?), but I treasure other comments more. Like comments on my personality or other important things like my blog. ha

My friends and family have told me that I am disciplined. When I really want something, I put many hours into working for it by researching, writing lists, reading different articles, etc. But more recently, the compliments I get are about my blog. I  think it's really sweet whenever they mention it- it's fun knowing that they like reading what I have to say. I enjoy my blog so much, and I love finding interesting/cute pictures to go with posts. It's very fun!

What do you receive the most compliments on in your day to day life? Do you like being complimented, or does it make you uncomfortable?

An award and my answers!

I would like to thank Kristen from Just when you thought for awarding me the Stylish Blogger Award! I have received this award before, and I'm so honored to have gotten it again!
Thank you, Kristen!

Here are my 7 facts about myself!

One. My brother, sister, and I were all born in a row! I can't imagine how much work my parents had when we were all young! I don't think I would ever want to have kids born right after each other, because I really don't think I could handle it. Ha! I am impressed by all the moms who have kids close in age and just moms in general. :)

Two. My boyfriend recently agreed to start dance lessons with me! I was thrilled when he brought it up a couple of days ago. It was so sweet, because he knows it is something that I enjoy. We want to learn all types of dance!

Three. I graduated from college a year ago in May this year, and I cannot believe that it's been a year already! I don't miss sitting in small cramped desks in the English hall. That was painful, but I do miss all the wonderful professors I had. I also loved being in the college setting and walking to class each day, especially in the spring and summer. I felt young and carefree. It was wonderful. I loved walking to the pond and castle at my school on a warm sunny day! Magical...

Four. I'm terrified of heights and spiders. I went to an indoor water park in January this year, and when I was walking up several flights of stairs to go to on a water slide, I started breathing hard and felt like I was going to have a panic attack. I'm not really sure why my fear of heights is that bad, but it's horrible! Oh and spiders... I really cannot tell you how much I hate those awful things! They are creepy and gross. Although, I am getting better at killing them on my own.

Five. I love keeping a pile of magazines on my night stand or next to my bed. I read a few different magazines each month including: Real Simple, InStyle, whole living, Elle, and Women's Health. I like all of them for different reasons. I recently have liked reading about organizing and different tips for health and food related topics so Real Simple and whole living are my new favorites, while Elle and InStyle are magazines I have loved for years.

Six. I am an early morning person. Some of my friends joke that I have internal alarm that forces my body to get up at 6a.m. It's true. This week, I told myself I was going to sleep in one day so I didn't set my alarm thinking I could sleep in to the later hour of 8a.m., but I woke up promptly at 6:15a.m. I was really disappointed to say the least. I would really like to be able to sleep in past 7a.m. on the weekends!

Seven. Breakfast is my least favorite meal of the day, and I usually eat something that is anything but breakfast food when I wake up. The only morning staple I do swear by is waffles or fruit loops cereal, but even then, I would rather have a sandwich or salad. Bill doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't love breakfast, since it is his favorite meal. My favorite is lunch or dinner.

Now, it's my turn to do the tagging! Here are the bloggers who I am awarding the Stylish blogger award:

Brandi from Home Team Dreams
Haley from Life is sweet...
Chelsea Elizabeth from Organized Mess
Gail from Sophisticated Steps
Ashley from Piloting Life
Melissa from Perfect Peace
Jenna from Leggings Love

I want to thank all of you for your sweet comments and support lately! I really appreciate it! :)

Day 10: Someone you need to let go, or wish you didn’t know.

I can say, I have known when a relationship isn't right for me and knowing that is pretty painful. It's not easy realizing that a certain relationship is one sided and not worth pursuing.

Although, in the past when I have let go of a relationship that is unhealthy, I feel lighter and happier months down the road. I'm not reminded every day that the relationship wasn't worth it or wasn't right for me. I'm thinking about other things. Things that are more positive. That's why I believe that sometimes you have to go through the pain of realizing that you might need to let someone go even though it is so painful. If you let go of the negative things you make room for the positive things that will come into your life.

I am fortunate and very happy to say that everyone in my life right now are people who treat me well. I have healthy relationships that I hope to have for a very long time. I think my experience with bad relationships helped me to realize what I really wanted in a friendship. In fact, I know it did.

I know I'm not perfect and haven't been in my relationships, but in the friendships and relationships I have now, I want to treat those people in a respectful and giving way. I want to see their side of things and work together on whatever comes our way. I am working on realizing how my actions and words affect other people. It's a process that is well worth the work that goes into it. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Love,

Spring Colors

Since Spring hasn't poked it's head out from the gloomy sky in Illinois, I have decided to shower myself and you with several photos that make me so entirely excited about warm weather and sunshine! I personally cannot wait for the day when I can step outside in shorts and a tank top. I didn't mention any shoes, because I prefer to not wear them in the summer! Although, if I am going somewhere I would chose flip flops or flats!

On another note, I am a couple of days behind on my 30 Days of Truth challenge. Don't worry, I will pick it back up again this afternoon after I go on a much needed run. Have a great day, everyone!

Inspiration from the Heart: Long Distance Loving

I believe we all have a different story to tell when it comes to how we started our blog. I had mentioned before that I love getting to know people, and that I would like to feature interviews on my blog. I am calling this feature Inspiration from the Heart

For my first post in this series, I would like you to meet AV from long distance loving!

Where did you receive your inspiration to start your blog? I started reading blogs here and there when I started wedding planning in January 2009. I loved wedding blogs and ultimately found a few other non-wedding blogs which really inspired me. Over the last few years, I've started a few blogs--only to leave them after a few posts. {long distance loving} grew out of months of plotting and brainstorming. I knew I wanted a way to record what I find as inspiration and to remember the years we spent in a long distance relationship...so that I wouldn't forget how much I've evolved (and our relationship has evolved) over the years.

What have you learned from blogging? What is your favorite part about blogging? Blogging is an absolute labor of love. Someone once told me you should ALWAYS post once a day...and I've tried to maintain that number. Pushing yourself to post daily forces me to stay creative! My favorite part about blogging is finding people along the way who are really much more than blogger buddies.

What are some of your hobbies? I'm a huge distance runner, but I'm currently down for the count because of a stress fracture. When I'm not running (like now), I still love to work out, keep in touch with friends, drink good vino, travel to new places, and find treasures in consignment shops. I am (sadly) a reality TV junkie, but on the upside, I do like to feed my brain by reading! Though it's funny to consider this a hobby, but caring for our two adorable kitties is also a big joy for me. And if you didn't already guess, I adore blogging.

What is your favorite part of the day? I love the last 30 minutes before bed...when {cv} and I can finally debrief and take a step back from the craziness of our everyday lives.

What do you think is your best quality? I'm about the most loyal person you'll meet. {cv} laughs at me for it--because it even stretches into my shopping habits. (I will only ever eat JIF peanut butter, wash my clothes in Tide, and blow my nose in Kleenex.) I like to think that my loyal nature keeps my friends close and enables me to help them through their rough spots and to help them celebrate their joys! My loyalty also helped me keep {cv} around because he never had to worry I'd look elsewhere when we were long distance. I am his--and his alone!

Thank you AV for being the inaugural Inspiration from the Heart post!

Now, everyone, go show AV some love and visit her wonderful blog - long distance loving!

Little Pink Book Update

Hi friends,

I just wanted to send you all a quick update via a post. I had changed the url of my blog this evening, but then I received an email from a sweet reader who wasn't able to view my posts anymore. So, now, I have decided to switch back to my old url until I can fix this problem.

I don't know how to fix it so you all are able to view previous posts from your dashboard. If you know how to fix this problem please let me know! If I'm not able to fix that problem, I will just go ahead and keep my current url. Thanks!

P.S. I will update you why I wanted to change it tomorrow, and I will also let you know why I might keep the same url. Have a good night, friends!

Our One Year ~ Scenes from Galena, Part 2.

Since we stayed downtown at The Desoto House, the pub crawl was a fun and convenient idea for Friday night. We had a blast together. During the night, we met so many sweet people. Billy and I were both surprised that we met so many visitors of Galena who were very interesting to talk to at the different pubs we visited. Billy is more outgoing than me naturally, but I still managed to get to know a few new friends as well!

I mentioned before in part one, that there was a bagpiper. Oh, the infamous bagpiper! Billy and I loved listening to him play the bagpipes as did everyone else of course. We learned later in the night, that the bagpiper's name is Erin and his girlfriend's name is Rachel. It was awesome getting our picture taken with them! Erin has a unique story. He knew people in high school that played the bagpipes and that is how he started playing. I thought that was awesome! The last picture in this post was the last of the night. If Erin and Rachel didn't live far away, I could totally picture us going on double dates. ha

It was sad seeing the night come to an end. I know we will both have many good memories from it for a long time. I'm so happy that we got to share that special trip together! Thanks for the wonderful surprise, Billy!

Day 09: Someone I didn't want to let go, but we just drifted.

There are so many things that affect the closeness of a relationship. How close you live to each other. If you have the same interests or the same group of friends. I believe that you really need at least a couple of these things to stay in close communication.

Besides the friend who I had talked about earlier, I really for the life of me cannot think of a close friend who was in my life who I don't talk to anymore. If you are wondering, in high school, I had a close group of friends. Most of the time, I liked keeping 3 to 5 people in my inner circle.

One of my best friends is a girl who I went to first grade with in elementary school. I'm pretty sure our first grade teacher was both of our favorite. She was also definitely a part of my close friends in high school and college. We still hang out to this day. I like keeping the same friends year after year, but of course, I always like making making new ones. Can you think of a friend who drifted from your life?

Our One Year ~ Scenes from Galena, Part 1.

(My attempt at a cheesy driving photo.)
We were so happy to get away and celebrate our 1 year dating anniversary.
Billy, you are such a sweetheart!
When we first arrived at Galena, we walked around and looked at all the cute shops and restaurants.
Every building was so close to the next. After lunch, we walked up an ungodly amount of steps. It was a GREAT workout!
We made it to the top!!
And we saw all these the most beautiful old houses.
I secretly day dreamed about what it would be like to live in one.

Billy. Happy in Galena.

As some of you may know from reading my last post, my sweetie had planned a surprise for us on our one year dating anniversary. I was dying to know what he had planned, but when I asked him, all he would respond with was, "It's a surprise." Very frustrating. haha On St. Patrick's Day (the day before our one year), Bill told me after dinner with his family that he had planned a one night stay in Galena! I was thrilled to go visit there. I had heard about that cute little town through my mom.

We both had so much fun staying in Galena. During the day, we explored the shops and found a great place to eat lunch at One Eleven Main. After lunch, we walked up huge flights of stairs to look at all these beautiful homes. I really couldn't imagine living in one of them since I have a huge fear of heights. The houses that we saw were all pretty old and very unique. One of them had what looked like a servant living quarters on the back of their house!

After we had ventured throughout town, we took a short nap at the DeSoto House, where we stayed, and then we went on a pub crawl later that night. I had never done a pub craw before yesterday. This one had a St. Patrick's Day theme to it. At every stop, we would get more necklaces and trinkets. It was a blast. :) You might be wondering what was the best part of the crawl? The bagpiper!! Yes, you read that right. There was an actual bagpiper who went from bar to bar with us and played in the pub. It was fantastic. I will include the details of the rest of the night in another post! But, I will say this weekend I have fallen even more in love with my boyfriend. (I know that might be cheesy, but it's the truth.) He is my best friend!

P.S. I wanted to let you all know that Lindsay, from scenic glory - let your spirit take flight, created my blog design! I think it looks perfect, and it is everything I wanted! She didn't know this beforehand, but I love polka dots. She is just that good. :) I am still deciding on what I want my banner to look like, and I am very happy Lindsay will be creating it. Thank you again, Lindsay!
