Christmas 2011

Hey blog friends! Wow, time has gone by fast. I've been thinking about Christmas the last few days, and I wanted to give a bit of a review. I don't remember everything I did last Christmas, and I don't want that to happen this year. ;)

This year, I had one of the busiest Christmas weekends in a long time. We celebrated the holiday with Bill's family on Friday by having dinner together and exchanging gifts after. Everyone has one person that they buy a couple of presents for each year. It's kind of fun getting a different person each year to buy for. Plus, it's less overwhelming to get a present for one person rather than the whole family. Bill has a lot of family members, and they're is two more on the way. There's a lot going on, and it's definitely an exciting time. The next day we celebrated Christmas eve with my mom's boyfriend's family. Also, we went to my dad's on Christmas day and had a good time hanging out together. It was busier than probably any Christmas I've had before, but that's OK. That's why I looked forward to this weekend the most. Where I could stay home and bake and relax.

Bill and I don't have big plans for New Years, and I actually don't mind this year. We'll probably stay home, cook and bake, and hang out with family. It's going to be a good new years! What are your plans?

Christmas time is here...

Family Christmas Tree.

I've almost finished buying presents for everyone this year, and I'm so excited I won't be shopping on Christmas Eve this year. I've bought presents the day before Christmas on many occasions, because I can't stand all the traffic and lack of parking spaces throughout December. :(

Bill putting together our new book shelf. :)

My brother Phil hanging out in the living room.

This Christmas will be different than most not including the fact that I didn't procrastinate buying presents. This year, I have so many new changes that I'm anticipating. Some I'm welcoming with open arms and others I am not. I cannot wait to get married and celebrate me and Bill's marriage. It's going to be wonderful! The change I'm not so sure about? My dad is leaving for Afghanistan to work as a contractor. Fortunately, he will be at our wedding and see me get married, but I know there will be a time of adjustment. It really will take a lot of prayer and will power not to worry about him, but I know my trust in God will grow from this experience. Who knows, maybe this job will be a great opportunity for him? I think so...

Other than that, things around here are pretty much the same. I'm loving the time I have with my brother and sister during the holidays. It's been a while since we've all been home and been able to spend this much time together. I'm hoping we can all go out to see a movie sometime soon such as this one,  or this one. Tonight, we all went out to Houlihans with Bill, and we spent a couple of hours talking about movies, plans for Christmas, and the wedding. I realized how much I have to be thankful for in my life. I'm blessed with people who truly care about me, and I couldn't be more happy about that.

Christmas Week

This weekend was awesome. My dress fitting went really well. It fits like a glove, and I am thrilled that I found a veil that I adore. :) So, now my dress, veil, flip flops, and instructions for my busel are all in one bag. Perfect. The wedding excitement didn't really end there.

Bill's sisters and his younger brother's girlfriend Colleen took me on an outing on Saturday, and we watched New Year's Eve together at a theater where you can order dinner and watch a movie. I loved it! Now that it's Sunday, I wish the weekend was few days longer. I have a few more people to buy Christmas presents for this year. Plus there are a few things that I want to do this week to make the most of December like drink hot chocolate and watch Polar Express, bake Christmas cookies, and dress up for a fancy dinner. :)

What's on your list for this week?

Last fitting for my dress.

I'm so happy that the weekend is here! Maybe, even more than I usually am most weeks. I have my last fitting for my wedding dress after work. I can't wait to try it on and find out what the finished product looks like! I'm also picking up my flip flops and my veil tomorrow. I am in love with this veil. I know it is going to feel awesome to have my whole wedding outfit picked out and ready! I have goose bumps thinking about how close the wedding is from today. :)

I love that polka dot veil too.

Bill is also picking out his wedding attire this weekend. Fingers crossed that we find something good. I think I want his groomsmen to wear yellow shirts, but I'm leaving it up to him for the most part. Other than picking up wedding attire, I am having a pretty mellow weekend. Just the way I like it. Bill's sisters have a fun outing planned on Saturday night with me and Bill's younger brother's girlfriend. I'm looking forward to dressing up a little and having a good night with them. The rest of the weekend, I am organizing and working out. Life feels like it is in fast forward to the wedding. It's amazing how fast time is going.

I think I about panicked when I realized that next week is Christmas!

Here are few links to brighten your Friday:

Cutest Cupcakes I've found (in a while)

The cutest pregnancy photo...ever! A cute idea for Bill's sisters. :)

Anything Beach gets me in a good mood.

Ideas for a Pink Outfit to throw together!

I want to curl up here and read a book.

Fingerprint Heart Necklace... Easy enough to make.

What a fun idea for Christmas Decor.

Christmas Wish List

I feel like a major slacker, since I didn't post this yesterday. Anyways, some of you may know, I did my first guest post at Leah's blog, An Oridnary Fairytale. You can read about it here. I brainstormed a few things on my wish list that I would love to get this year. Hope you enjoy it! I love Leah's blog-she always post something really engaging. Go check her blog out. :)

What's to come later this week:

+ Thoughts on packing & moving in general.
+ Move in purchases.
+ Christmas plans!
+ What I've been baking.
+ Thoughts on weight lifting, yoga, & running.

Christmas Treats

When I was younger, my family and I would go to Colorado almost twice a year. We would visit my mom's best friend from elementary school who lives near Denver. She has kids around me and my brother and sister's age, and we always had so much fun hanging out with them. I loved going there during Christmas. We would decorate their house, and they always had this massive tree in their living room that I completely enjoyed.

One of my favorites things that we did was making sugar cookies made with spelt and decorating them with sprinkles and frosting. This year, I want to make some of the same cookies-you have to try making cookies with spelt flour. It tastes amazing! I'm also going to try and bake a few things that I haven't before like the Candy Cane Swirl Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Bark, Brownie Petit Fours, and Candy Cane Blossoms pictured above. :) What are your favorite things to make this time of the year?

At Christmas You Tell the Truth.

Hello friends! What are your plans for the weekend? I'm planning on watching Love Actually at least once this weekend. :) I watched it a few weeks ago, and it always gets me in the mood for Christmas! Bill and I are also doing our Christmas shopping. Each person in his family buys for one other person, but no one knows who has their name before the party so we'll buy our presents for our secret person this weekend. Other than that, I'm going to relax, work out, and take a few naps.

Is it sad that I'm excited about having the time to take a nap? I guess that's OK. :) These past couple of weeks have been kind of stressful for me with different things to think about and decisions to make before the wedding. I kind of let the stress get to me. I think it happens to everyone even if you're having a small wedding-like us. Anyways, I'm looking forward to a low key kind of weekend. I hope you enjoy what you have planned as well!

Lately

This week has been super hectic. I can't believe how long it's been since I last updated, but I guess that's what happens when I have something going on almost every night. I'm not complaining really. It's a good kind of busy filled with wedding planning, house decorating, packing up all my possessions (FYI, you never realize how much you own until you have to move it all), and other things that take up a lot of my time. Last night, I felt really good after I met with my trainer  who happens to be one of my good friend's mom. It feels good to work out hard. I've been focusing on weight training like I've never have.

After I work out today, Bill and I are going to do a little shopping. Hopefully, we'll get a Christmas tree. ;) We really haven't decorated for Christmas yet, and I feel like it's sneaking up on me this year. With all the other things I'm thinking about, it doesn't surprise me though. Have you decorated for the holidays yet? What's your favorite thing to do?

Happy Thursday!

The best is yet to come...

On our second date, Bill and I went out for ice cream and went bowling with his best friend and his best friend's wife. I remember feeling self conscious wearing my ugly bowling shoes in front of Billy. Heck, everyone was wearing those shoes, and I still felt that way! Now, I wouldn't even think about that, but I wanted to impress him.  I also remember that I almost said "No" to going bowling. I wanted to suggest a different less embarrassing option. My sister had told me that I needed to get out of my comfort zone... I owe her a big thank you.

I ended up bowling OK, and that night, I realized how comfortable I really was with Billy. It was only the second time we had met. I found myself smiling at him every time I took my turn. I couldn't help but smile. I had a gut feeling that he was going to be in my life for a long time. It might sound premature, but I couldn't ignore those thoughts that he was right for me.

I've been thinking about that date a lot. I'm so glad that my gut feeling was right. We are getting married really soon. I can't wait for our special day. A lot of people have been saying that, "The best is yet to come." My thoughts always go back to that after we finish something for the house.

Like painting our bedroom together. Moving the bed into what's going to be our new room.  Organizing the pans, cups, and cutting boards we got at our shower. All of those things make me realize how close we are to the best part of our lives. I can't wait!

I ran out of steam.

I feel like I have hit a wall. Kind of like the wall you hit after you run 9 to 10 miles. The wall that makes you sit back on your butt and tells you were way too ambitious. This may be laughable after my last post about all the things I wanted to accomplish for today, but I have since adjust my plans. I'm going to take things a little slower and enjoy everything a little bit more.

The possibilities are endless. Maybe not endless, but they are wide open with there being no work. Maybe, I'll finish the book I've been reading or workout for a few hours at the gym. Or maybe I will hang out with my family? All I know is I'm going to enjoy a relaxing day.

I'm going to revel in the fact that I painted a bedroom for the first time. An accomplishment IS an accomplishment no matter how small. I'm going to be thankful that I have pretty things to decorate my room with a nice new framed wooden mirror, warm blankets, decorative candle holder, and pretty ornate switch plates. Life is good... And I love finding things to be thankful for in my life.

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful

I've been having the most relaxing and fun Thanksgiving weekend so far. Yesterday, I spent the day with Bill's family. We had ham for breakfast and turkey for dinner. I painted in between meals with Bill's mom. It was great having her help. Bill was able to paint perfectly around the bird nest that we saved from the farm mural. I'm happy to say that we our finished painting our new bedroom.

We didn't do hardly any black Friday shopping this year. Long lines have no appeal to me. Although, I did go with Bill, his brother and his brother's girlfriend to Walmart. We walked in and did a lot of people watching. There was nothing really worth standing in line for an hour or two so we decided to go back home.

I spent most of the day organizing things in Bill's house and cleaning. All the laundry is finished and the cabinets are all organized. I'm having so much fun getting our house ready for after the wedding when I move in. I love taking pride in where I live and making it as nice as it can possibly be. I think I take after my mom in that aspect. She loves decorating, and I am no exception. *Tomorrow, I am going to move all of the clothes and other things to the closet in our new room, paint the hallway, hopefully paint the bathroom, hang up a framed wood mirror that I got for $15 at Menards, and relax a little during the day. I'm hoping I don't feel too tired after tomorrow, but I feel like I can't stop organizing till I'm done. I'm going to make sure I have a few hours that I'm doing something relaxing. haha Other than that not much else is going on over here. It's been pretty mellow. I'm thankful for that and peppermint chocolate, good friends, and wonderful family to enjoy their company. This weekend is going to be great!

*I will do all of that stuff if I decide I have the ambition for it, which I probably don't. :)

Our New Room (Half Finished)

On Monday, Bill and I started painting our new room. We only thought we would be able to get the ceiling painted, but we stayed up late enough to paint two walls with two coats of our wild berry color.

I helped with a lot of the painting starting with the ceiling. (The farm mural was for Bill's niece's room) They lived in the house before we did.

Here is one side of the room. We still have some touching up to do in our room, but I'm planning on finishing it tonight... :) Oh and in case you're wondering, we decided to keep the nest from the mural. It's super cute, and it might give the room a country feeling. Right now, I'm thinking of different ways to decorate the room. I'll post pictures when everything is finished!

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend, friends!

We found our color!

Last night, Bill and I met up for dinner after I finished working out at the gym. We went to Panera-where I worked for nine months after I graduated from college. He always thinks I know all of their secrets since I worked there, which I will say I know some of them... haha It was fun explaining to him how they prepare their food and where things come from. Anyways, after we ate, we went to Menards to pick out paint color for our room!

Painting our room has been on my mind since we first talked about it. Well.... I know I posted we were going to paint the room purple, but we decided against it. So many of the purple shades would end up looking grey. I never thought that until I held it away from myself or put the paint chip in the dark. That is basically how we tested what colors would be good. We held several different paint chips underneath a shelve so it was in the dark to find out what the color was going to look like in dark light. It worked out pretty well for testing colors.

Honestly, I didn't know if we were going to find the right color last night. We searched through all the pinks, purples, and in between colors they had. That's until I picked up this brochure that I hadn't seen. I immediately fell in love with this berry/wine color. The pamphlet had this beautiful color of paint called chilled wine. Bill thought it would be too dark on the walls, and we ended up opting for the shade lighter, called wild berry. It's funny because the wild berry looked more like the paint in the photo. Ahhh.... It's gorgeous!! I have a feeling it's going to make our room look really rich and vibrant. I can't wait to start painting and see the finished product.

A purple room.

This week has been kind of long. I feel like I have been really busy with everything, and I'm thrilled that it's finally Friday. Bill and I are painting one of the rooms in house that is going to be our room. We decided to paint it purple. I'm honestly very happy that Bill doesn't mind that it's going to be purple. I don't know how I got so lucky... I've always wanted to paint a room purple and never actually got around to the painting part. This will be a very exciting first time for me!!

Hey, your closet is overflowing!

Bill and I rarely spend time in my room. It could be because it's packed with a bunch of stuff that has no place to be stored.... Or it could be because of the lack of places to sit. We mainly hang out at his house. Anyways, yesterday, we were hanging out in my room of all places. It was hilarious when he walked past my closet and just stared at it and said, "Your closet is overflowing!" I knew it was full, but I wouldn't have described it as "overflowing." ha That one word made me a little nervous to think about packing up all my clothes, shoes, books, and other random stuff strewn around my room. I have accumulated a lot of junk over the years.

Although, it probably won't look like a lot when I have more space to store it. At least, that is what I'm hoping. :) I'm thinking I'm going to come up with a game plan this weekend to pack up everything. I am going to need a hundred boxes. Although, that might be a tad dramatic!

Another Twilight Fan...

This past week, I decided I was going to read Breaking Dawn, the last book in the Twilight series, before the movie comes out on November 18th. It was one of the best decisions I've made that week. ha Anyways, I'm more than halfway done with book. Did I mention I love it? I'll admit it goes from happy to scary/sad in no time, because of Bella being pregnant and all with a human baby that is part vampire. OK, I think I might be saying too much for those who are waiting to see the movie.

Anyhow, I just thought I would share how good I think the movie is going to be before it comes out. :) So tell me... Are you into the Twilight series? Or do you not care?

I'm planning on going with Bill's sisters and my own sister to see it on Saturday! I can't wait!

Pretty in Pink.

Last night, I spent a lot of time pinning different photos on pinterest. PINK pictures. Afterwards, I realized I want a few different things pink for my wedding. Here's a few of the things I found intriguing!

I have to admit, it would be pretty fun to wear a pink dress the day before the wedding!

These would be fun to make for sure...

I think I'll have a pink bouquet.

These nails are close to perfection. The darker pink is beautiful. It makes it look like you have ribbon on your nails-if that makes sense.

I'm still looking for a good flower for my hair. This one is beautiful.

An eventful day.

Today was a great day.  I was so excited to see my brother in the evening. I thought about it all day! He has been studying abroad in London the past two and half months-while I'm here working. No, I'm not jealous at all. haha. I'm really glad that he got the opportunity to go there. He stayed in Chelsea and came back with a lot of cool pictures and stories. I was thrilled to get a big hug from him when I came from work. He brought back a bracelet for me from one of the markets. It's beautiful, and I love it!

Other than that, Bill and I had a "successful" shopping trip. I don't know why I put it in quotes, but I usually get frustrated when we shop. Most of the time, I don't think anything looks good on me. ha Then I try on a bunch of things and ask Bill's opinion, and I usually don't end up buying anything. It probably isn't much fun for my sweety. Tonight was different though. I picked out two shirts that I really liked. They were also hugely on sale. I contribute my success partly to my shopping experience with Bill's sister Katie. I could learn a thing or two from her. ;) Also, Bill got a few things that he needed that were also on sale. We both kept on mentioning how we did so good this time at actually finding what we needed. It may not seem like a big thing, but we definitely had fun.

Oh, I'm almost forgot to mention... I saw some of the first snow flakes this year!

Is it really that time again?

How do you reward yourself?

Yesterday, I ran 4 miles and lifted weights after work. It felt great running, and I got a good workout. I came home, and I ate spaghetti that my sister made.

Perfection. :)

How do you reward yourself after working out?

Bridal Headbands & Crowns

I've been thinking about what I want to wear in my hair for the wedding. I thought about making it myself as well. I'm looking forward to finding the perfect flower for my headband! I've decided that I really want to wear a floral headband. Some of these are so pretty!!
These bridal crowns are gorgeous! I love how they tie everything together.

This one is artistic and has a natural look to it. I love how her hair is loose with a slight wave to it. Beautiful!

I also did some searching through Etsy and found several headbands that I loved. This one looks incredibly pretty and sparkly. I really like the flower on this one. This one does remind me of a Garden Princess. Simple and beautiful.

If I go the route of making my own, I have a few ideas of flowers I might want to put on my headband.

I love the idea of a flower with a pearl and rhinestones in my hair. I also would adore having rhinestones on the headband. I think that last one is the closest to what I want. It's so gorgeous! I haven't decided whether or not I would want a white or pink flower, but I'm leaning towards a white flower. :)

I had an idea of how I wanted to wear my hair, and this picture describes it perfectly! I want to wear it half up and half down. Only, I'm going to have the floral headband accenting everything.

If you're married, how did you wear your hair on your wedding day? To those of you who aren't married, have you ever thought about what you want do with your hair for your wedding?

....The planning continues....

Have a great weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? I'm going to a going away party for one of Bill's coworkers tonight. I'm excited to see Billy. He's been on night shift this week, and I miss him like crazy. I have around twelve hours till we see each other! Other than that, we are thinking of ways to organize our things this weekend for when I move in January. We're going to Target for different shelves/containers to organize everything. I'm looking forward to coming up with a plan of where to put the books, clothes, and more stuff that I have... I'm going to have more space to put all of it in two months.

Have a great weekend!
